They are looking for an interdisciplinary mix of volunteer:
We are seeking volunteers to participate in a small evaluation session to trial the final knowledge base system of the AHRC-funded project 'Weaving communities of practice', to take place on Tuesday, 8 July 2014 from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Birkbeck, University of London. It would not require more than one morning of your time.
'Weaving Communities of Practice' has brought together a multidisciplinary and transnational team, including ethnographers, linguists, archaeologists, museum curators, weavers, cultural geographers and computer scientists with the aim of creating a knowledge base for Andean weaving designed to contribute to current curatorial practice and heritage policy. An important part of this research has been the modelling and representation of knowledge that is held by domain experts, in the form of an ontology, and the development of search facilities supported by the ontology and targeted at domain experts and researchers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that detailed ontological modelling has been undertaken for the domain of Andean weaving. By making available this knowledge in the form of an ontology, and by providing search facilities over this? ontology, our aim is to make this knowledge more accessible to researchers in this area. For further details about the project please visit the project web site at: http://www.weavingcommunities.org<http://www.weavingcommunities.org/>
If you would like to take part, please send your name, institution and position (if applicable) and contact email to me ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by Tuesday, 1 July 2014. I would be grateful if you could forward this to anyone you think might be interested.
