Duties and Responsibilities
‘Big data in health’ is an important focus of the newly established and rapidly expanding Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research. The principal purpose of this post is to carry out high quality statistical analyses of electronic health records, for example using large scale record linkages across primary care, hospital episodes statistics, disease and procedure registries and death registry (CALIBER). There is a range of clinical application areas including investigating risk factors in cohort analyses with competing risks, risk prediction, analyses of care and outcome between hospitals and between countries. As well as designing and carrying out statistical analyses, the post-holder will be encouraged to take part in national and international methods workshops, and teaching and training.
The post holder will be encouraged to use this role as a springboard to developing post-doctoral fellowship proposals to MRC, NIHR, BHF, Wellcome Trust in order to develop their academic careers. Funding for this post is available for 18 months in the first instance, from 1st September 2014.
Key Requirements
First degree or MSc in quantitative discipline and a PhD in relevant quantitative discipline (e.g. biostatistics/ epidemiology/ bioinformatics / genetics) or equivalent research experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will have strong database skills in the manipulation and management of large data e.g. using SQL and strong statistical analytic skills in R or other similar statistical software.
