My enquiry concerns the donation of larger collections and the related policy particularly policy regarding the future disposal or relocation of such materials. Does anyone have policy documents that they are willing to forward to me (off-list? ([log in to unmask] ) The collection consists of published material books and journals (periodicals) i.e it is a library donation rather than an archive collection.
Does anyone have experience of situations where the conditions of acceptance were not documented or if documented no longer traceable and what legal issues could arise if a library went ahead with disposal of such a collection? Again this can be off-list (I will provide a summary of key points).
Finally, when seeking to contact the donator after a period of years what would be deemed a reasonable level of effort i.e. trace and contact the surviving spouse, trace and contact a son or daughter if the spouse is deceased, or would the University be expected to do more? I intend to contact the family via the deceased's former publisher.
