We are doing some research (in preparation for a new library build project) into the area of stock layout. In particular:
- Examples of layouts that have worked well e.g. promoting appropriate use of quiet study areas, facilitiating access to resources.
- Examples of layouts that have been less effective or caused unforeseen problems e.g. noise problems, library users having problems finding things
- Examples of libraries that have arranged their Dewey sequence into subject areas. How did you group your collections? What impact has this had on the library catalogue? How do you ensure users find things?
I'd be interested to hear any ideas on this from libraries in any sector whether you have recently had a new build / refurbishment or not.
Many thanks,
Nicola Perry
