Abstract
The modelling of residential choice is a key element in land use and transportation modelling, and in spite of recent advances in availability of spatial datasets and, improvements in computational and choice modelling techniques, significant empirical and methodological challenges remain. This seminar presents a modelling framework for residential choice that addresses three key challenges: (i) the development of models at the dwelling-unit level, (ii) the treatment of spatial structure effects in such dwelling-unit level models, and (iii) problems associated with estimation in such modelling frameworks in the absence of disaggregated dwelling-unit data. The proposed framework is applied to the residential location choice context in London.
About the Speaker
Dr Alireza Zolfaghari is a post-doctoral researcher at CTS. He conducts research in the areas of urban land use, transportation and energy systems, specialising in the domain of mathematical and statistical modelling. During his PhD in Imperial College London, He developed an analytical tool to analyse and forecast the impacts of land use regulations and transportation investments on outcomes such as housing prices, location choices and travel behaviour. Since finishing his PhD, he joined the Climate-KIC Smart Urban Adapt (SUA) project, where he is working with academic and industrial partners (including ETH Zurich, ESRI and IBM) to develop a cloud-based policy simulation platform to analyse climate mitigation scenarios in urban areas.
Next CTS Seminar
Dr Xin Zhang (Post-doctoral researcher at Shanghai Jiao Tong University) will be leading a seminar titled "GNSS software receiver - State of the art" at Imperial College London on Wednesday 4 June @16:00.
About the CTS Seminar Series
The CTS seminar series aims to facilitate discussion on current research topics in the transport field. Seminars are held jointly with our colleagues in the Centre for Transport Studies at University College London. They are usually held on Wednesday afternoons at Imperial College London or University College London.
Seminars are free of charge and open to all interested parties.
