Morning
Defining 'average' is going to be very difficult, but
Try the NUS Pound in Your Pocket Report - http://www.poundinyourpocket.org.uk/downloads/PIYP_Summary_Report.pdf can't see a date, but is apparently published after 2012
I'm more familiar with the Sodexo Student Living Report
Link to the 2014 report here http://digitalpages.digitalissue.co.uk/00000082/00019241/00088093/
Your elected officer is still going to have to do some averaging
Sources of bursary (cash in pocket not fee reduction): be careful as Russell Group HEI's tend to have generous bursaries for relatively few WP students, more normal/ more WP institutions have far more eligible students to share the money out amongst, therefore bursaries tend to be a bit anaemic by comparison. Personally I'd take a sample of Access Agreements from here and see if you can average additional income http://www.offa.org.uk/access-agreements/
Institutional websites are pretty clear about sources of funding, however, you may struggle to find how many students have been given bursaries – you'll probably have to look at previous Access Agreement reports to work out how many students are eligible for bursary support. I'd have thought your SU will have access to your institutional reports though
Not sure if that helped

Subject: Quick q?
Dear all
Having had great success with one question to the list already today, I hope you won't think me greedy to be asking the second.
One of our student union officers has just asked me the following: do you have any information regarding the average UK student’s financial support available over a year compared to the average student outgoings?
I think I can see where he's going with this in terms of looking at levels, and accumulation of indebtedness, and I know the question needs more unpacking (e.g. are we to include earnings alongside support) - however, any references I can pass on that deal with relevant issues and sources of information would be helpful.
Best wishes
John
