Hi,
I find this topic of conversation really interesting. sci-comms enterprises like Pint of Science are integral to showing what people can do with science (whether earning money or not). I am myself behind a freelance project called 'Flashmob Science' which aims to tailor talks, demonstrations and learning resources to a variety of subjects across the field of science and collaborating with organizations such as the National Trust, British Science Association (I'm aiming to run the CREST scheme in my local area eventually) and independent businesses to break the barriers to scientific information down in a fun/structured and informal manner.
I myself did not know that gaining an income from sci-comms was itself frowned upon by some. I think greater discussion between organizations, projects and businesses that do/don't gain an income from communicating science should be welcomed.
Diana
