Dear LIS-LINKers,
Here at the University of Northampton Library a small research team is looking at how we can better support academic staff with ordering resources and updating their reading lists, with a view to improving the processes involved, and managing their expectations. The project is called An investigation into the selection and ordering of resources for reading lists at the University of Northampton. (We use Talis Aspire for our reading lists.)
We are looking into the current practices and expectations of academic staff around the whole acquisition process of new stock, from the point of staff request, to items being made available to both staff and students.
As part of this project, we are seeking information from other institutions around use of automated alerts for academics, and I would be very grateful if you could answer the following please:
1. Are you using any automated alerting system for academics e.g. EDI quotes or Zetoc?
2. If not, would you want to?
3. If you use one, do you act on it and follow it up?
4. Do you think academics appreciate receiving such alerts?
5. Do you have a model/benchmark for how many copies of titles that you buy?
6. Any other comments
I will circulate the responses to the list.
Many thanks
Kind regards
Janet Milner
