The Carnival Trail Companion
100miles, 5 days, 9 carnivals on the Isle of Wight 3 -7 May
An invitation to be present
As part of their continuing collaboration Ali Pretty and Richard White are curating the inaugural walk of the Isle of Wight Carnival Trail this coming weekend. The walk is offered as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival.
We welcome day walkers and especially those who can take part in the full 5 day experience.
We extend an invitation to be present on social media.
The walk is a performance which we hope will be experienced and engaged with worldwide through social media. Our immediate platforms are face book and twitter. Please join us, comment and share.

As we walk and at key moments along the way we will be considering themes arising from our experience on the Isle of Wight: from beauty contests and fertility to pranksters and disguise. Each day we will tweet/facebook those themes.

The walk is supported by the Island carnival associations who, working with Ali Pretty, have produced banners and flags. As the walk enters each Carnival community there will be a celebration with music and flags. Ali has produced a unique Carnival flag with each community for presentation to the walkers at each location. On the last day all the flags will be flying as we arrive into Ryde.
Sounds, memories, stories and images of carnivals past are being gathered and curated by Richard White to create the Carnival Trail Companion. The Companion exists in social media, is developing as an interactive map and a series of sound parks for each Carnival town/village. The Companion hosts the conversation on the walk and will capture elements of it. Future walkers will find echoes of this using the map and the app. We want you to be part of it where ever you are!
