Project Archivist:
Taming the Leviathan: Cataloguing Archives relating to Whaling, Seal-hunting and the Marine Environment
Salary: £25,013 per annum, Start: 1 July 2014. Fixed term for one year
We are seeking a highly motivated archivist to undertake an exciting project based on papers related to the marine industries of whaling, seal hunting and fishing. These will come from two internationally-significant collections: the papers of Professor D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson (1860-1948), and Antarctic whaling records of the Sea Mammal Research Unit. This project has been made possible by a generous grant from the National Cataloguing Grants Programme’s Andrew W Mellon Foundation strand.
You will undertake detailed cataloguing, interpretative and outreach work with the collections, liaising closely with partners across a number of academic schools within the University and other community groups. You should be a professionally qualified archivist with experience of working with complex archival collections and an interest in marine biology and environmental issues.
The post is for a period of one year to start on 1 July 2014.
Closing date: 29th April 2014
