hi all
long story but I have met a chap who has been off since xmas with a small inguinal hernia- about size of 10p. Had USS this week and sonographer confirmed hernia- due to see GP for result and manager eager to have him back to work rather than be off for duration of NHS waiting list- private funding not an option. During assessment he advised that he can manage all aspects of his manual job as he is "the person who uses "proper lifting".
I have dedicated my evening to the darkest recesses of google without success ...my question is a simple one....are there any restriction to weights lifted while awaiting surgery? Even when carrying out "proper lifting!"? I can find guidance on retuning to heavy manual work after surgery but nothing before...
I can suggest risk assessment but that strikes me as a bit of chocolate teapot advice as the manager will ask- how much can he lift, push and pull?
