Dear all
[with apologies for double posting due to former incomplete information]
I am looking for:
1) a small group of people (ideally 8 but for technical reasons we could have 5 or up to 10) from universities, research and other special libraries or information and documentation centres willing to test principles, concepts, applicability and efficiency of a new taxonomy, for indexing purposes; each representative can share with his / her own organisation the contents of the exercise so that several people of the same library can be involved;
2) a control group of single / not affiliated participants including consultants, freelance, vendors and project
managers generally interested in knowledge organisation. Software programmers and data analysts are welcomed, whatever disciplinary sector are they involved with, as well as retired historians and engineers!
The taxonomy, Turning The Tide or 3T, is related to cybercrime and cyber security from an interdisciplinary perspective but its innovative structure makes the experiment relevant for any library and information service interested in new developments for knowledge organisation of digital collections and open data.
To register your interest send me (at bl at brunellalongo.co.uk or via normal post to address for correspondence specified below in the signature) your personal details, details of your organisation and description of expected benefits / reason why / motivation to join the 3T groups by **** Monday 30 June 2014 ****.
In order to have plenty of time to prepare for the test and familiarise with some aspects of the
terminology at your own pace the collaborative platform will be available both for group 1 and group
2 during the Autumn 2014. As for the time being, I think we will use a private microblogging system in association with other non disruptive asyncronous systems (so that participants will not receive email messages and will be able to participate at their own pace).
Further info about the exercise:
- it will took place in 2015 (provisionally January - March 2015) using remote access to shared resources 24/7;
- will require participants to fill surveys and index / tag electronic resources (mostly articles and
papers available through open access repositories and free databases but specific collections
arrangements might be agreed in the meantime with the collaboration of single institutions);
- will provide participants with exceptional practical insight and learning opportunities about
retrievability of digital collections and open data.
All welcomed!
Kind regards
Brunella Longo
