=======================================================================
PPSN 2014 Workshop - Renewable Energy and Computational Intelligence
13-17 September, Ljubljana, Slovenia
http://cs.adelaide.edu.au/~optlog/PPSN2014RenewableEnergy/
=======================================================================

Sustainability is of great importance due to increasing demands and
limited resources world-wide. In particular, in the field of energy
production and consumption methods are required that allow to produce
renewable energy in an efficient way as well as develop methods for the
efficient usage of energy. The vast extension of renewable energy
sources, and the growing information structure allow a fine screening of
energy resources, but also require the development of tools for the
analysis and understanding of huge datasets about the energy grid.

On the algorithmic side evolutionary computing methods play a key role
for planning, optimizing and forecasting sustainable systems. The goal
of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers using as well as
working on evolutionary computing methods for sustainable development.

Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Wind, solar and other renewable energy sources
- Planing and control in smart grid
- Balancing strategies for integration of volatile sources
- Network restoration
- Smart metering
- Forecasting of energy production and consumption
- Energy markets and economic aspects
- Hybrid electric and other plug-in vehicles
- Real-time and hardware-in-the-loop smart grid simulation
- Resource visualization and monitoring

=Interactive Activity=
During this half-day workshop, we plan to offer the following activities
in addition to the technical talks:
- Group discussion "Quo vadis, Renewable Energy & EC?": an opportunity
for industry and academia to discuss current challenges
- Demo session "Show us what you've got!": an opportunity to demonstrate
tools, frameworks, algorithms, . . . (five minutes per demonstrated item)

=Participation=
If you want to give a talk and/or a demonstration at this workshop, we
kindly ask you to send us the abstract via email first. We will then
inform you if we can include your talk/presentation at the workshop. The
abstract should be no longer than four pages (any style), and it should
be submitted as a PDF file. Note that this abstract will not be
published, neither in Workshop Proceedings nor in the PPSN 2014
Processings. However, we intend to organise a special issue of a
highly-ranked magazine, and high-quality contributions to this workshop
will be invited to submit full articles (details to come). In addition,
we might upload the abstract and/or the slides of the presentation to
this website, should be authors agree.

=Dates=
- Submission deadline: 26 May 2014 (note: PPSN author notification is on
19 May 2014)
- Author notification: 2 June 2014
- Date of this workshop: t.b.a. (PPSN: 13-17 September)
