2.1 Digichamps Webinar, 16 May 2014, 12:30 - 1:30 PM
This webinar will discuss the models of student engagement at the University of Southampton to support the development of Digital Literacies for staff and students. Working in partnership with students in an engaging and authentic manner is an important aspect of the digital literacies work being undertaken by the Centre of Innovation in Technologies and Education (CITE).

2.2 Enrol on ocTEL - Open Course in Technology Enhanced Learning
The Open Course in Technology Enhanced Learning (ocTEL) is back! Starting on the 28th April 2014 you will be able to participate in this online course designed to help you better understand ways to use Learning Technology for teaching, learning and assessment. The course has undergone a revision and now is shorter (six weeks plus induction week) and we are working on incorporating new features including Open Badges for accreditation.

2.3 CMALT webinar for candidates, Tuesday 29 April, 12.30 – 13.30
The session is designed to provide information and support to candidates looking to complete their portfolios in the next few months. It will provide an overview of the submission process, advice on how to complete a portfolio and an opportunity to see how the assessment process works.

2.4 OER14 Newcastle University, 28-29 April 2014
Now in its fifth year, OER14 is an international conference on open education. The conference is supported by ALT and the ALT Open Education Special Interest Group. This year the conference themes are: building and linking communities of open practice; MOOCs and open courses; academic practice; development and pedagogy; open policy; research; scholarship and access; students as users and co-creators.

3.1 £1.1m 'Learning Technologies: Design for Impact' competition
The Technology Strategy Board and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) are to invest up to £1.1m in exploratory studies into the design of technology-based products and services that will improve learning outcomes.

3.2 Network Dedicated to Fostering Web Talent through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is Launched with the Support of the European Commission
The European Commission has launched the network “Startup Europe” in order to help build up web skills throughout Europe. The initiative seeks to boost the lacking qualified workforce by increasing the use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

3.6 Transforming Lives Awards - Nominations now open! Celebrating teachers, trainers and tutors who help adults change their lives through learning.
NIACE in partnership with NOCN and the Institute for Learning (IfL) are this year launching the Transforming Lives Awards for teachers, trainers and tutors in England. Each year, alongside the outstanding achievements of Adult Learners' Week Award winners we hear stories of the exceptional efforts that teachers, trainers and tutors go to support their learners and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. So to make sure an inspirational teacher, trainer or tutor you know receives the recognition they deserve - whether they have taught you or they are a colleague - nominate them for a Transforming Lives Award.

4.1 Making it Matter: Supporting education in the developing world through open and linked data, Friday 16 May 
This one-day workshop is organised by the LinkedUp Project and the Commonwealth of Learning. The aim is to bring together developers, educators and individuals from the development community to see how they can work together by using open and linked data to support education in the developing world.

4.2 Team-Based Learning (TBL): Group Work that Engages Students, Tuesday 10 June 2014
Bradford School of Pharmacy invites you to attend a Masterclass in Team-Based Learning (TBL) with Larry Michaelsen at the University of Bradford. Developed by Larry in the US in the late 70’s, TBL is a special form of collaborative learning using a specific sequence of individual work, group work and feedback to create a motivational framework in which students increasingly hold each other accountable for coming to class prepared and contributing to discussion.

4.3 eLearning Africa conference, Kampala, Uganda, 28-30 May 2014 
eLearning Africa is the largest gathering of eLearning and ICT supported education and training professionals in Africa enabling participants to develop multinational and cross-industry contacts and partnerships, as well as to enhance their knowledge, expertise and abilities.

4.5 ELESIG Masterclass, Hertfordshire University, 30 April 2014
Using technology in data collection: exploring learners' experiences through use of video diaries, social networking and twitter. This masterclass draws upon the expertise of those who have researched different aspects of the learner experience with technology, combining the practicalities of setting up data collection, the ethical issues to consider and analysing the resulting data sets with reflection on the value of the approaches.

4.6 Google Apps for Education European User Group Meeting (GEUG14), University of York UK, Monday 23 - Tuesday 24 June 2014
Registration for this year's Google Apps for Education European User Group Meeting (GEUG14) is now open! This is following on from GEUG12, a previous event held at the University of Portsmouth in 2012. Monday 23 June is open to all, with the additional sessions on Tuesday 24th June available to existing Google Apps users only. Registration is now open and costs only £50 per person.

4.7 Launch of the North West ELESIG Group, Liverpool, 15 May 2014, 12:00 - 16:30 (PDT)
We are pleased to invite you to the free inaugural symposium to launch the north west ELESIG (Evaluation of Learners' Experiences of e-learning Special Interest Group). This new collaboration with the universities of Manchester, Liverpool and John Moores has been funded by the national ELESIG to bring together and further develop understanding and effective learning strategies within e-learning programmes.

4.8 Cetis Conference 2014: Building the Digital Institution 17 – 18 June, University of Bolton
This year’s conference focuses on the digital institution exploring how technology can support and develop every aspect of university and college life. The programme includes keynote presentations from Phil Richards, Chief Innovation Officer at Jisc and Audrey Watters, freelance technology and educational journalist and author of the Hack Education blog. The conference parallel sessions cover a wide range of current topics from open education to learning analytics, from ebooks to open knowledge, from system integration and accessibility to learning metadata.

4.9 Technology Strategy Board 'Learning Technologies: Design for Impact' workshops, 28 April – 20 May
A series of knowledge sharing and partner finding workshops are being held between to highlight the challenges and opportunities specific to the design, adoption and implementation of digital technologies in the education sector used for learning and teaching. Workshops will be held between April 28 - May 20 in the following cities: Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, London, Manchester, and Newcastle. http://bit.ly/1iYWLz4

5.1 eLEOT 2014, 1st International Conference on e-Learning e-Education and Online Training, 18-20 September, 2014 – submission deadline extended to 28 April 2014
This conference will assess the most progressive and exciting ideas for the future of e-Learning. This is truly an incredibly valuable movement as we move towards a flatter information structure for anyone who wants to learn. The works that will be presented at eLEOT 2014 will include the following; accessibility and usability of web-based instruction in the classroom; assessment; best practices; collaborative learning and social network;  e-Learning workflow; educational/learning repositories; mobile learning

5.2 The Student Social Media Showcase (SSMS), Brighton Business School, 9 July 92014, 
The SSMS, hosted by the Business e-Learning Research Group at Brighton Business School,  will draw together local employers in the field of digital marketing and creative industries with recent graduates, academics, apprentices, teachers and school students at the Huxley building, at the University of Brighton. University students and recent graduates are invited to submit a multimedia summary of their current academic research on social media in the form of a short video, soundbite, Prezi or any other creative artefact that can be displayed independently in the space. Students should attend to discuss their work with the delegates and potential employers from the industry who will also be there.
