Hi I use endnote but it seems to sit somewhere on my computer and so not much use when away. Our institution is also looking for a cheaper option and Zotera has been recommended. This is more portable though you need a Hotmail address to use it.
You also need to download plug ins for some of the more useful features such as cite while you write.

Dear All Members,
I wonder if anyone can give me advice on 'Reference Manager' software on my computer. I am looking for a program to manage reference before I start a research project. My very quick search found Mendeley and Zotero but I have no experience of using any before and I do not know what is popular among midwives. I appreciate if anyone can recommend one for me.

Hi Hiromi
I've used EndNote for my research and am on the whole comfortable with that, but I've been advised that Zotero is a better platform. I am too far down the track with my PhD to think about changing, but if I was at the start of the project I would go with Zotero. It is free software and user friendly once you get started.
All the best.

Subject: Systematic review & meta-analysis of RCTs: Effect of physical activity during pregnancy on mode of delivery
Effect of physical activity during pregnancy on mode of delivery
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 03/24/2014 Clinical Article
Domenjoz I, et al. - This study aims to evaluate the effect of structured physical exercise programs during pregnancy on the course of labor and delivery. Structured physical exercise during pregnancy reduces risk of cesarean delivery. This is an important finding to convince women to be active during their pregnancy and should lead the physician OR MIDWIFE to recommend physical exercise to pregnant women, when this is not contraindicated
Methods
* A systematic review and meta-analysis.
* Medline, The Cochrane Library.
* Randomized controlled trials (RCT) evaluating effects of exercise programs during pregnancy on labor and delivery.
* Results summarized as relative risks.
Results
* 16 RCT were included, including 3359 women.
* Women in exercise groups had significantly lower risk of cesarean section (RR, 0.85, 95% confidence interval, 95%CI 0.73 to 0.99).
* Birthweight was not significantly reduced in exercise groups.
* The risk of instrumental delivery was similar between groups (RR 1.00, 95%CI 0.82 to 1.22).
* Data on Apgar score, episiotomy, epidural anesthesia, perineal tear, length of labor and induction of labor were insufficient to draw conclusions.
* Using data from 11 studies (1668 women), analysis showed that women in the exercise groups gained significantly less weight than women in control groups (mean difference of -1.13 Kg, 95% CI -1.49 to -0.78).

I use Endnote Web, which is accessible everywhere, like RefWorks. I
originally used RefWorks, but since it is expensive my university
stopped buying access for its staff and students and switched to
EndNote. I was fortunate enough to go through those changes before my
PhD started, and would not have wanted to have to change horses in the
middle of the river, so to speak. So before you decide, I strongly
reccommend checking the availability through your university. What seems
to be a free software might actually be payed by the school, and you
have to be sure they are not going to change that in your research period.
My best, and good luck.

Greetings from Ethiopia
Good reference manager so far is EndNote ( EndNote 7) / Thomson Reuters
ltd. It has many features but its commercial and not a free software.
Zotero is free software but friends told me in case if you update your
Mozilla the whole references you stored will be wiped out.
If your can afford use EndNote.
Please find the attached presentation that may give you hint on how to use
EndNote software .
