Dear Colleagues
We are very pleased to announce the winners of CoLRiC’s Best Practice Awards
for Library and Learning Resources Services in FE and sixth form colleges.
This was the first time CoLRiC has run these awards and we were delighted
with the number and quality of the entries. They exemplify the very good
practice taking place in these services to improve outcomes for students.
First prize goes to Weston College for its entry ‘Tech Genius’ which the
judges particularly applauded for its service interaction. Somerset College
is second with its sustainable ‘Conversation Café’ which is boosting college
enrolment figures. There are three joint third prizes: for Sparsholt College
and their ‘Guerilla Librarians’ project, a high impact initiative utilising
staff IT and social media skills; Esher College for its Learning Improvement
Programme which supports curriculum developments and recognises service
staff as partners in learning; and Oldham College for ‘The Know Induction’
which demonstrates a high level of co-operation between service staff and
colleagues across the college.
Margaret Phillips, Chairperson says “CoLRiC launched these awards in the
same year as our 20th anniversary as we are convinced that there are many
unsung heroes in libraries and learning resources centres making a truly
magnificent difference to learners in the FE sector. We have been
overwhelmed by the number and quality of the entries. Each one has
highlighted the hard work by all those working in learning resource centres
in further education and provides compelling evidence of the commitment
given by staff to the service and their institutions”.
We will be marking the achievements of the winners and other entrants during
CoLRiC’s events programme for 2014. These continue the focus on the
different ways library and learning resources services in FE and sixth form
colleges are demonstrating best practice and making a difference to
students. The events are being held in Durham (16th May), London (6th June)
and Taunton (20th June). There are further details on our website at
www.colric.org.uk.
CoLRiC is an independent organisation working with library and learning
resources centre managers in further education and sixth form colleges to
enhance and maintain excellence in their services.
Best wishes
Sue
