Environmental livelihood security stems from the challenges of maintaining global food security
and universal access to freshwater and energy without compromising livelihoods under variable
climatic regimes. Environmental security, a concept complementary to sustainable development,
investigates the increased vulnerability people have to certain environmental stresses, such as climatic
change. This theme is seeking research papers which have adopted a spatial approach to analysing
topics within the framework of the water-energy-food-climate environment nexus. Research papers
could encompass aspects of food, water and energy security as duel-nexus components (e.g.
food-water) or could consider multiple components. Analytical emphasis should be on locational
applications where there is a strong dependency on the environment for attaining livelihood security.
Case study applications should ideally be located within the Asia-Pacific region and topics which focus
on the sustainability of livelihoods and/or climate change pressures would be preferable. Papers which
approach aspects of this topic from a quantitative spatial approach are particularly sought. Please email
the session convenor if you have questions as to the suitability of your research.
