The Samsung Digital Discovery Centre is a cutting-edge initiative for digital programmes which allow children, young people, teachers and families to explore our diverse and extensive collection using the latest technologies. In this challenging and rewarding role you will develop, deliver and evaluate digital learning sessions and resources, manage the strategic dimensions of the Centre, work in liaison with the IS department to identify and resolve technical issues arising from the work of the Centre, promote the SDDC across the organisation and beyond, and maintain the Museum’s reputation as a leader in museum-based digital learning. You will teach mainly primary school groups, as well as managing and running sessions for families, teenagers and teachers.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience as a digital learning or ICT manager in a museum or other heritage/cultural institution or in a school or other agency. Along with an up-to-date understanding of learning and the curriculum and a high level of competence in the appropriate use of digital technologies with children of different ages, you will be experienced in the project management and development of web and or mobile applications in an education context and understand the application of the latest hardware and software for learning. You will be skilled in media production (image, audio and video editing) and the use of social media and web-based productivity applications. You must be confident with all types of digital technology, capable of analysing technical specifications, troubleshooting on a day to day basis and having the technical knowledge to liaise effectively with IS colleagues. Ideally, you should also have experience in the creation and commissioning of content for a variety of digital platforms, especially mobile and web.
As a highly skilled teacher and imaginative and engaging communicator you will interact easily with a wide range of individuals both internal and external to the Museum and will work well within a team. Ability to deliver multiple tasks to deadline, to efficiently carry out administrative tasks and to manage simple budgets is essential. Some weekend working may also be required.
