[Architecture and Urbanism of] *Radical Inclusivity*
Can we imagine architecture which is truly inclusive? Architecture not only
for minorities and those without voice, but architecture of and for
everybody and everything, people and nature? What would an architecture and
urbanism based on the idea of radical inclusivity would look like?
In recent years we can observe general acceptance of Carl Schmitt's vision
of politics, based on a fundamental distinction between friend and enemy.
Schmitt's thinking comes from his experiences of the 1st World War, of long
trenches and infantry. His thinking of politics is flat, is based on
separation, on 'zoning'. This kind of imagination intertwines with the
remnants of the post- modernist obsessions of fragments and marginals in
the common fear of totalizing whole. This kind of political imagination
seems to be extremely influential in contemporary architecture and urbanism
- torn between legacy of modernist 'separationism' and interest in
minorities, fragments and exclude
In the interpretation of the modern left (mainly Chantall Mouffe ) Schmitt
speaks in one voice with Karl Marx, the voice of the class struggle and the
agonistic conflict. This surprising alliance between contemporary Left and
thought of Nazi jurist is directed against neo-liberal capitalism, against
the technocratic rationality of modern (post ?)democratic debate. Is
agonistic pluralism the only alternative to the current socio-political
crisis? Can we imagine a universal (or even - total) pluralism? Can we
imagine politics based on an idea of radical inclusiveness, politics
in a horizon
of apocatastasis? Inclusivism which is a total, but it is not totalitarian?
Can we reject Schmitt's flat imagination and look for multidimensional one
that allows us to create - even temporary - inclusive, universal Whole?
Instead of separation, instead of functional purity, can we imagine
architecture which is truly inclusive?
We are looking for papers that will try to renew the faith in the
possibility of universal, inclusive politics, architecture and urbanism. We
are open to every possible universalist perspective - from the religious to
the transhumanist , from conservatism to the neo - communism
