The Salzburg Summer School on Allotment Gardens in
European Cities 1-4 July 2014 in Salzburg, Austria

The subject of the Summer School will be allotment gardens
in the context of the European cities including all
relevant aspects of allotment gardens development in
Europe. Our focus will be on four research areas: Planning
and Policy, Sociology, Ecology, and Urban Design.
We are looking for interested students to join the Summer
School (at master or PhD level) and early stage
researchers (who are in the early phase of their career
with at least PhD degree and not more than 8 year work
experience after graduation). Applicants should come from
COST countries or be affiliated to SURE.
COST countries are the 35 member countries: Austria,
Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia,
Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway,
Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, the
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Israel as a
cooperating state.
We expect to have 25 students. There are no parallel
courses planned. All students must attend all scheduled
sessions in order to acquire an integrated view on the
subject area of this Summer School (i.e. European
Allotments).
Interested students shall apply with a motivation letter
and a full CV until March 31st. The Organizational
Committee will make the final decision on the space
available basis by end of April 30th.
The confirmed applicants who are not from COST Countries
have to pay a participation fee of‎250‎€. This
will cover the costs of the course. Other costs like
accommodation, meals and travel costs are not included in
the fee. Participants from COST Countries will be granted
for accommodation, daily meals and travel expenses
according to the COST Actions’ reimbursement rules:

The following reputed scientists from different European
countries will support the Summer School as tutors:

3. Ecology: Prof. Andrzej Mizgajski, Poland (COST), Dr.

4. Urban Design: Prof. Dagmar Haase, Germany (SURE), Mr.
Russell Good, UK (COST)
All students shall be able and have the interest to do
preparative works for the Summer School in advance
following the requirements of the tutors that will be
informed in due course. Successful students will receive
detailed information on requirements after April 30th.
Upon the finalisation of the four courses, all students
will receive confirmation letter of participation.
