Social inequalities in morbidity and mortality at older ages: explanations and future trends
This is a unique opportunity for a medical statistician to develop their career working in an academia-industry collaboration between one of the world's premier universities and one of the UK's leading financial services companies.
Population ageing is a key social issue of our times. Not only do we need to understand what factors have contributed to increasing longevity since the 1970s but also how these will evolve into the 21st century. Critically, to reduce health inequalities, we also need to understand why socioeconomic differentials in health and life expectancy have persisted.
The post-holder will enhance their experience of modelling survival in patients with chronic disease/s using linked electronic health records by contributing to the translation of evidence into a decision support visualisation tool for use by clinicians, health commissioners and risk analysts in the annuities industry.
The post holder will have
- a PhD in medical statistics or equivalent research experience in a relevant quantitative field
- postgraduate practical experience in analysing longitudinal and/or linked-health data
- excellent applied statistical analysis, data management and computing skills
- excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
The post holder will be seconded to UCL until December 2015 in the first instance, subject to renewal.
Informal enquiries should be made to Charlotte Carter ([log in to unmask], 01737 375 566 or Dr Madhavi (Maddy) Bajekal [log in to unmask]) or Prof Rosalind Raine ([log in to unmask]).
