I heard from a hosting site that "the last few weeks has seen a huge rise in the number of attacks to wordpress websites", and they publish advice on securing Wordpress <http://www.cyberhostpro.com/website-hosting/securing-optimizing-wordpress-part-1>
Whether this is any more a problem for Wordpress than any other popular web/blog/content management platform, I cannot say. Presumably you can lock it down, install your plug-ins and keep monitoring the security news.
