I've had a read through of the Lead, Zinc and Silver document and added some
updates and some alterations. Somehow, Alderley Edge appears to have crept
in and produced a large amount of information. Most of this is history, and
is not relevant to a Research Agenda for Archaeology. I've made comments and
suggest that it is severely whittled down to what is relevant to the task in
I'll have a go at reading the Coal item next.

Subject: Research Agenda for the Archaeology of the Extractive Industries
A draft of the Research Agenda for the Archaeology of the Extractive
Industries (England) is now available for comment on the NAMHO website:
This represents a major milestone in the Archaeological Framework for the
Extractive Industries which NAMHO has been working on with English Heritage,
albeit somewhat delayed.
The document has resulted from consultation with a broad spectrum of
colleagues and others with an interest in mining history, archaeology and
heritage, including at two seminars held in 2012. This process has
delivered 64 specific research aims.
We now invite discussion and comment on this document and would wish to
hear of any further research aims not currently covered. We are aware of
some shortfalls in the material, particularly on the topics of iron and
stone, where we would appreciate additional ideas but are willing to
consider further suggestions under any of the headings covered. Research
aims need to reflect a lack of previous research within a given subject and
should include specific goals with some ideas as to the form of research
needed to achieve them.
Please send all comments or suggestions to the Project Officer (Phil Newman)
by 16th March. [log in to unmask]
Advanced drafts of most of the individual assessments are also now
available, incorporating many comments sent by members of this list.
It is not too late to add any final comments to these documents if you have
not done so already.
