Dear All,
I have had the following from the Australasian Mining History
Association informing me of the death of Professor Kett Kennedy who
was the lead organiser for the IMHC in Charters Towers this coming
July. Ket had been ill for some time with cancer of the spleen but
had hoped to see the Congress through to completion, unfortunately he
had a relapse and died on Saturday.
The best way we can celebrate his life and a long standing
contribution to mining history and archaeology is make the Congress
in Charters Towers an outstanding success.
I will be posting new contact details for registration and paper
submissions as soon as they are available.
Peter

>Subject: CT2014 International Mining History Congress
>Dear Colleagues,
>
>It is with much sadness that we advise that Kett Kennedy died on Saturday
>night (22nd). He was the organiser for the Charters Towers Australasian
>Mining History Association (AMHA) Conference and the 10th International
>Mining History Congress (CT2014). Kett was also a foundation member of
>the AMHA and organised our first national conference.
>
>The CT2014 Conference and Congress from 6th to 11th July 2014 will
>proceed but under the auspices of a new committee formed by the Executive
>of the AMHA, comprising Ruth Kerr as President, Ross Both Vice President,
>Mel Davies (Secretary/ Treasurer), and Peter Bell and Jan Wegner. All are
>well experienced in organising national and international
>conferences, so we can assure everyone that the usual high standards will
>be met. In addition, Jan Wegner, Peter Bell and Ruth Kerr are all
>familiar with north Queensland and its history.
>
>
>The Charters Towers Regional Council is very supportive and has
>guaranteed that the promised extensive sponsorship in kind will be
>honoured. We will be updating the web page asap.
>
>
>We hope, following this sad news, that you will continue to promote the
>conference and encourage registrations.
>
>Best Wishes,
>
