In Embase drug* adj5 use* also seems to work quite well. However, in Embase there is a thesaurus term of DRUG USE/. Might that be an alternative?

Subject: Re: HDAS: can't search on "use"
cos it is one of many 'stop words' which are so common (like and, the, etc) that they have little value in any search string - but as I recall, there used to be a 'string' function where you could quote a phrase in delimiters ... if you were more precise on the use of the phrase/term 'use' eg "use of gamma" ...
there is or was a list of stop words that most Librarians knew, too.

Subject: HDAS: can't search on "use"
Please can anybody explain why some of the databases in HDAS refuse to carry out a search on the word "use" in title/abstract? So, for example, in EMBASE I can't use <drug* adj5 use> as a query in title and/or abstract. CINAHL will, however, do this.
Thanks,
Paul
