The African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS), in the School of Social Sciences, enjoys an international reputation for outstanding teaching, research and public engagement in migration & development issues in Southern Africa, across the continent and beyond. It now seeks to appoint a Research Communications Officer.
The Centre wishes to strengthen its ability to disseminate and communicate its research in ways that encourage positive, pro-poor reforms within South and Southern Africa. The successful incumbent will work with a small communications team to ensure that ACMS findings find their audience through channels including media, internet, seminars and workshops and high level policy dialogues.
Qualifications:
. Bachelor's and preferably masters in relevant social science field;
. Extensive communications experience or;
. MA degree in communications, journalism or related field
Additional requirements
. Broad based knowledge of migration and urbanization issues in South and /or Southern Africa;
. Knowledge of HTML, WordPress and /or Drupal;
. Knowledge of Constant Contact or other specialized contact database management software;
. Writing policy briefs;
. Ability to present information to different audiences including general public, media to high level decision makers;
. Skills in editing and ability to employ strong design principles for print and electronic media;
. Good understanding of current thinking and practice in research communication and understanding of the technical processes associated with research translation.
