Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for an interdisciplinary
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Peace Studies effective August 1, 2014.

Qualifications:
This position is open to various areas of disciplinary expertise and requires a unique
interdisciplinary approach that bridges the various disciplines that inform issues of conflict and
peace. These would include sociology, religious studies, political science, and anthropology, among
others.
Candidates with expertise in peace and one or more of these areas will be particularly welcome:
peace and the environment, peace and atrocity studies, peace and development, peace and
feminist studies. The college welcomes scholars with interest in applied peacemaking and
advocacy.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and
research.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include teaching courses in support of the undergraduate major and minor in
Peace Studies. Major requirements include Introduction to Peace Studies, Nonviolent Social
Change, and the capstone in Peace Studies.
Research expectations include significant work in Peace Studies, presumably within the candidate’s
disciplinary field. Chapman University considers advising and mentoring of undergraduates to be
essential components of the position. The program currently has approximately 50 majors and 25
minors, whose advisement is shared among faculty members.
Tenure track faculty are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
