Dear all
this is a gentle reminder that basic scanner safety rules are there to make sure that accidents never occur at BUCNI, and are there to protect you and your participants. Some particular reminders of things we cover routinely in safety training:
— All people entering the console room must be screened before coming in, and MRI-unsafe objects left in the lockers or elsewhere. (e.g., pay attention to the signs in bold font on the doors).
— The only exceptions to this are BUCNI-approved experimental equipment, laptops used for stimulus presentation, and the operator’s mobile and keys, which must be placed in the labelled red boxes. (Mobiles are especially easy to pick up absentmindedly).
— The console room door should be closed at all times, except when someone is actively going through it. If you open it for someone, it is your responsibility to screen them and make sure they are not carrying anything into the console room (like a bag).
— The scanner door must *always* be closed if the console room door is open, or if people are going in and out between sessions.
— If you have to keep the scanner door open (for instance, when setting up the back projection camera), don’t let people come in and out of the console room.
— Take particular care with experienced participants, and people you are familiar with, or who are familiar with MRI. They are often the most dangerous because they are more relaxed around the magnet.
— If you have a long setup time, make sure to book the magnet for that setup time so that you are not overlapping with other groups. This is especially important during times of peak scanning.
Thanks,
BUCNI
