The Farr Institute has a range of PhD projects that seek students with
a background in statistics.
The Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research has four nodes
distributed across the UK - HeRC-North, @UCLPartners, Scotland and
CIPHER and will link research in 19 other UK universities.
The vision for the Farr Institute is to deliver high-quality,
cutting-edge research linking electronic health data with other forms
of research and routinely collected data, as well as build capacity in
health informatics research.
With a £17.5 million-research award from a 10 funder consortium, plus
additional £20 million capital funds from the Medical Research
Council, the Farr Institute will support the safe use of patient and
research data for medical research as well as innovation in the public
and industry sectors leading to advances in preventative medicine, the
delivery of NHS care, development of drugs and diagnostics and new
insights into the understanding of causes of ill health.
The Farr Institute has established a *three year doctoral training
scheme* that will provide students with an opportunity to develop new
cross-and inter-disciplinary skills and contribute to an exciting,
thriving and multi-disciplined research community in a strategically
important and high-impact field. Supervisors are drawn from across
nodes and projects cover the main Farr platforms and clinical
work-streams. Students will be based at one of the centre partner
institutions, but will form part of the wider Farr Institute Doctoral
Training Network.
How to apply
Potential students must first discuss the project with the appropriate
academic supervisors and obtain permission to apply. Students should
have a minimum of a 2:1 in their first degree in an appropriate
discipline and it is preferable for candidates to hold or be
completing a Masters qualification in an appropriate field.
Applications should consist of a CV, a statement of research
experience and interests, and the contact details of two academic
referees. Please submit the application to the relevant person for
each centre.
