Dear all,
Participatory Geographers may be interested in the following open access research paper about fat activism and the media written by activist, researcher and freelance journalist Dr Charlotte Cooper. It raises really important questions that relate to impact, voice, participation, media engagement, community/embodied expertise, and activism that extend to other areas of research as well as offering an insight into fat activist research and media encounters. Below is a link to the article and Charlotte's own description of it.

I've written a research paper about fat activism and the media. You can read and download it here:
No More Stitch-Ups! Developing Media Literacy Through Fat Activist Community Research
http://obesitytimebomb.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/no-more-stitch-ups-developing-media.html
I think it's an important piece of work because:
It's research by and about fat people, by and about fat activism, and is a product of our international networks.
It recognises and builds on fat community expertise.
It's about fat people and our agency, about how we might help change some of the world's most powerful institutions.
It's a valuable community resource.
It's free and available to anyone who wants to read it or make use of it.
I would really appreciate help with getting this out in the world. Please share the link with your networks, feel free to republish the report (it's released under a Creative Commons licence), I'm also available to talk about this work if you want to interview me about it. If you do academic work about fat, please cite it. If you have other ideas about how I might publicise it, please tell me.
With best wishes,
Charlotte Cooper
