Hi, I am a midwife working in an NHS unit with roughly 3000 births a year. We currently run an integrated team service with community midwives working both in the community, working on calls to facilitate home births and a midwifery led birthing unit which facilitates around 25% of total births. I am aware that several hospitals have recently developed specific home birth teams and this is something we are considering doing. There appears limited research into this and I would love to hear from anyone who is happy to share information regarding how their home birth teams operate. In particular I would be interested in what type of shift pattern midwives have, how many WTE in the team, how many on calls Midwives do a month and if the community midwives still do on calls. I am aware that some home birth teams are run from centralised labour suites, whilst others are managed by MLBU's. Any information would be much appreciated!
Thanks, Sarah
