Venue: Euston House, 24 Eversholt Street, London NW1 1AD (Note: this is
a new venue for us)
Date: Wednesday, 12 March, 2014 - 09:30 - 16:30
Course Outline:
Having problems with Google? Fed up with it deciding to search for
something completely different? Suspect it isn't telling you the whole
story? You can say "No", and there are times when Google is the worst
possible tool for researching a project. There really are other search
tools that can give you better results. This workshop will look at
non-Google options for searching the web, different types of information
and media.
Programme includes:
Alternative web search tools - features, strengths and weaknesses
Specialist tools for research information and grey literature
Image search tools and archives
Search tools for statistics and open data
Video
News
Social media and professional networks
Alerts and current awareness
There will be time to experiment and try out the techniques for yourself
and Karen will be on hand to help and advise you. Exercises are provided
to help you test out the tools and search features, but you are free to
explore and try out your own searches.
Who should attend:
This workshop is for anyone who wants to escape the Google filter bubble
and ensure that they are finding the most relevant information for their
query. It is suitable for all levels of experience and covers all
subject areas.
