Postdoctoral position political economy of Indonesia
This 2.5 to 3-year, 0.8 fulltime equivalent position is located within
a cluster of three social science and economics research programs
concerned with contemporary developments in Indonesia under the
Scientific Program Indonesia-Netherlands (SPIN

The three programs share an interest in governance, markets, and
citizenship. They are:
Social and economic effects of partnering for sustainable change in
agricultural commodity chains;
Local and regional dimensions in Indonesias social and economic
development;
From clients to citizens? Emerging citizenship in democratizing
Indonesia.
The primary task is to conduct research on the political economy of
Indonesia. The researcher will have a broad interest in one of the new
historical, sociological, or economic institutionalisms.
A secondary task is to organize a closing conference and resulting
publication(s) for the SPIN social science and economics cluster early
in 2016.
Required qualifications:
* PhD in social science and/ or economy of Southeast Asia;
* Fluency in Indonesian;
* A research and publication record examining the political economy
of Indonesia through one of the new institutionalisms;
* Experience in organizing academic workshops/ conferences.
The position is located at the Royal Netherlands Institute of
Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV), in Leiden, the
Netherlands (www.kitlv.nl). KITLV coordinates the SPIN research
cluster Governance, Markets and Citizenship. KITLV is an institute of
the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and is
affiliated with the area studies community at Leiden University.
Leiden is a pleasant, historical town not far from Amsterdam and The
Hague.
Salary / conditions: The appointment will be for 30.4 hrs per week
(0.8 fte) and initially for a period of 1 year with the possibility of
extension for an additional 1.5 to 2 years. The salary will depend on
training and work experience and will be in scale 10 (max 3,831 gross
per month on a full time basis) or scale 11 (max 4,462 gross per
month on a full time basis ) under the Collective Agreement for Dutch
Universities (CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten); 8% holiday payment and
a 8,3% year-end bonus apply. We offer an extensive package of fringe
benefits. Adequate funding for field research in Indonesia is
available.
