Hi all,
List members may be interested in the following vacancy. Please see http://www.jobs.qmul.ac.uk/4411 for details, including how to apply.
The Centre for Paediatrics, at the Blizard Institute, is an internationally-renowned centre of research. Professor Jonathan Grigg leads studies in reducing asthma severity in children. This post is funded by the new £10 million North Thames “CLAHRC” (Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care). Professor Grigg is the CLAHRC's Deputy Director and its Children's Theme Lead.
The Learning and Outreach Officer will support the CLAHRC's “School-based Asthma Study” which is part of the Children's Theme. The aim is to develop the capacity for children with asthma to complete an on-line questionnaire about their asthma control at school. Using this information a school-based intervention will be developed with the aim of reducing asthma attacks and days off school with asthma. The Learning and Outreach Officer will draw on the Schools network developed by the Center of the Cell to liaise with head teachers and establish this capacity.
Suitable candidates will have a dual interest in science communication and research. They will need to be enthusiastic in communicating with children about science, and show excellent organisational skills to deliver a successful project. Experience of liaising with schools and teachers is also essential.
The post is full time for 36 months, starting from 3rd February 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be £24,973 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefits pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
