Arts Advisor Engaging Science grants (Three days per week - 12-month fixed-term contract)
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in health by supporting the brightest minds and exploring medicine in its social, cultural and historical contexts. We currently have a vacancy for an Arts Advisor to cover a secondment in our Engaging Science grants team, primarily working on the Arts Awards. These grants support imaginative and experimental arts projects that explore biomedical science. The programme aims to stimulate interest, excitement and debate about biomedical science through high-quality, original artistic practice; examine the social, cultural and ethical contexts of biomedical science through the arts; encourage new ways of thinking; and promote high-quality interdisciplinary practice and collaborations between arts, science and education practice.
As a member of the team, you will contribute to the management of the Trusts portfolio of Arts Awards and assist in the development and implementation of initiatives and partnerships. You will report to the Senior Arts Adviser and work closely with the rest of the Engaging Science team to manage the Arts Awards funding schemes, monitor a portfolio of existing grants, evaluate the impact of our funding, and organise capacity-building activities for grantholders and other grant-making activities.
You will be based in the Trust headquarters in central London, but the role will involve travel within the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
You will have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant arts discipline, with demonstrable working experience in the relevant areas.
You must be able to demonstrate:
an exceptional track record of achievement in past roles
excellent written and oral communication skills
that you can work effectively and cooperatively within a team/matrix structure
the ability to apply your strong analytical and written skills to the funding and management of projects.
Ideally, the successful candidate will also have strong experience in the visual arts.
We offer a salary of c.£30,000per annum, pro rata, depending on experience, plus excellent benefits.
