PHD STUDENTSHIPS IN ITALIAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS FOR 2014-15
Following the announcement that the White Rose College of the Arts &
Humanities (WRoCAH) has received £19m from the AHRC to establish a
Doctoral Training Partnership that will create over 300 PhD studentships
and join the expertise of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York,
we are delighted to announce a range of AHRC-funded PhD opportunities in
the School of Modern Languages and Cultures.
We encourage applications for PhD study in areas related to Italian
studies, culture, language, literature and cinema among other subjects.
Italian at Leeds is one the most innovative subject areas on campus and
one of the top rated Italian departments in the country. Our students
will conduct independent research in a world-leading academic
environment. Italian at Leeds has been ranked second in the latest
national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), and has received two
major grants (Italian Voices: Oral Culture, Manuscript and Print in
Early Modern Italy, 1450-1700, and Dante and Late Medieval Florence:
Theology in Poetry, Practice and Society). Thanks to our programme
LivItaly, Italian at Leeds attracts important figures in contemporary
Italian culture. Our students will have the opportunity of meeting
Italian writers, singers, journalists and professionals. Leeds also
hosts the prestigious Leeds Centre for Dante Studies, which organises a
series of public lectures and runs initiatives to support students
working on Dante, including a national study day on Dante and the
innovative Leeds Dante podcasts.
