The Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to welcome the Modern Records Centre at the University of Warwick as its newest member.
‘The Modern Records Centre is widely respected as a centre of excellence in archival research,’ explained William Kilbride, Executive Director of the DPC. ‘They have recently augmented their processes and procedures for digital preservation and their digital collections are growing rapidly. This will help them managing their research data, the university’s own digital archives, and also the many archives deposited from outside agencies like the Confederation of British Industry.'
‘Warwick is in some senses the spiritual home of digital preservation in the UK: two influential workshops in Warwick in the late 1990’s were influential in setting up the DPC, and the first iteration of the Digital Preservation Training Programme was held here in 2005. Explained Ben Veasey, the University of Warwick’s recently appointed Digital Preservation Officer. ‘Joining the DPC brings us back into the fold. We’re looking forward to participating in the DPC’s programme and we have significant experiences to share’
Laura Mitchell, newly elected chair of the DPC also welcomed the latest member. ‘It’s encouraging to see that the DPC continues to grow. The need to pool experience in digital preservation is clear and the value of DPC membership grows the more agencies participate. We are excited to be working with the Modern Records Centre.’
