The 2014 Annual
Conference of the Pacific Arts Association–Europe will be held from Thursday,
April 24 to Saturday, April 26 at the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum – Cultures of
the World in Cologne, Germany.
The
conference in Cologne will coincide with the exhibition “Made in Oceania. Tapa
– Art and Social Landscapes” and participants are invited to attend the closing
ceremony of this temporary exhibition on Sunday, 27 April. More detailed
conference information (including information on excursions, conference dinner,
options for accommodation, registration fees, etc.) will be posted on the PAA
website (www.pacificarts.org) in
January 2014.
The
deadline for receipt of abstracts for presentations at the conference is January
31, 2014. Acceptance will be confirmed by February 15, giving participants
time to make travel arrangements. Once all presentations and program items are
confirmed, a detailed program will be posted on our website.
The
presentation of papers is open to any topic on Pacific art and culture. There
are two types of presentations: (a) papers of 30 minutes (20-25 minutes talk,
5-10 minutes discussion), and (b) shorter 10 minute reports on current
exhibition projects or work in progress in museums or galleries. We also
particularly welcome papers or reports on work currently carried out by artists
and graduate students working on any aspect of Pacific art and culture.
Please send
a title of your proposed presentation together with an abstract of no more than

January 31, 2014. Please also specify the technical equipment (projector,
sound, etc.) you require.
