Hi,

We're about to roll out new, pre-laminated barcodes for use within the Health Board.

We previously used the same barcodes as the laboratory. We also issued replacements using a Zebra bench top printer. The problem with these was how quickly they faded and they weren't very resistant to washing!

We're going for long random ID's to avoid easy password sharing and users guessing other user ID's and adding a contact phone number for POCT.

They aren't horrifically expensive ~ £600 + VAT for 10,000 labels.

Regards

Subject: POCT user barcodes

Hi,

We are about to introduce connectivity throughout our Trust and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how they manage printing their user barcodes?

For example, do you use a specific type of barcode made from a material that allows wiping clean for infection control purposes? Do you use a desktop barcode printer (and if so which would you recommend) or do your barcodes get printed from the same system as sample tube barcodes?

Any suggestions and advice is appreciated.

Kind regards,

Lisa-Marie
