Dear all (please circulate amongst networks as appropriate),
Fuse is seeking to recruit a Research Associate which offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing the new Complex Systems Research Programme within the Centre:
Responsible to: Professor David Hunter<http://www.fuse.ac.uk/profile.php?pid=2022>, Director, Centre for Public Policy and Health, School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Health, Professor of Health Policy and Management, Programme Leader, Complex Systems Research Programme, and Fuse Deputy Director.
Responsible for: research and research administration related to the complex systems research programme, funded through Fuse.
This post is fixed term until December 2015.
Job Summary and Purpose
The successful applicant will play a key role in developing the Complex Systems Research Programme within Fuse. (S)he will support the development of research proposals, seek publication of their work, and begin to establish independence by applying for an NIHR/MRC or other appropriate career development fellowship.
This innovative programme of work, based at Durham University's Queen's Campus, has two principal themes: (a) understanding health systems undergoing transformational change and their impact on populations, and (b) evaluating public health policies intended to improve health and wellbeing. Theme (a) will focus on evaluating the new public health system in England introduced in April 2013 and will seek to establish if it is maximising public health benefit for the available resources. Theme (b) brings together Fuse's research on evaluating public health policy interventions, including food and nutrition, alcohol and tobacco control policies.
The successful candidate will work closely with a multi-disciplinary project team drawn from Fuse's partners across the five universities based in the North East and including representatives from public health policy and practice. CPPH and the SMPH provide a supportive work environment and the post brings the opportunity to work alongside Fuse colleagues already based there.
The post will involve literature and documentary analysis and in-depth research as required. Skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods will be required. The post will be of interest to applicants with an interest in complex systems, public health policy, health economics, decision-making and decision-support methods related to public health, and reducing health inequalities. Key requirements of the post are: experience of working as part of a team; willingness to engage with a wide range of academic and policy partners; and the ability to manage tight deadlines.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in the University.
