LifeScan Scotland was created in 2001 when Johnson & Johnson acquired the UK assets of Inverness Medical Ltd, a medical device company established in Inverness in 1995 to design and manufacture glucose test strips, and design electronic meters for the global diabetes market.    Around 1,100 people are employed at the Inverness facility, which is regarded as a centre of excellence for those working in the field of diabetes.   
With a focus on future development, LifeScan is committed to "creating a world without limits for people with diabetes."  LifeScan Scotland's main product range includes the popular OneTouch® Brand of blood glucose monitoring systems, which is available globally.  The company has also developed diabetes management software, control solutions and lancing devices and, in addition, produces the specialist test strips that work with many of the meters in the OneTouch Brand line.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Data Scientist here in Inverness. As the capital of the Highlands this relatively small city, with a population of 65,000, offers an outstanding quality of life, excellent schools and colleges and good transport links.

The role of Data Scientist is to perform advanced data analysis involving appropriate statistical and mathematical techniques.  You will be supporting both new product development and sustaining projects, writing software in appropriate languages or programs to facilitate data capture , and data transfer to and from databases.

Responsibilities will include:
•	Compile, analyse, report and present technical data, identify causes, draw conclusions, generate reports and/or posters, as required
•	Responsible for maintaining compliance, consistency of work practices and quality of work 
•	Contribute to identifying and implement process level efficiencies with supervision
•	Work on a wide variety of technical problems and select/implement solutions at the appropriate decision-making level
•	Apply knowledge of experimental design, conduct experiments, analyse data with guidance from senior staff and drive experiments/investigations for business needs
•	Participate in sub-project work teams
•	Assist in training of new employees, as required
•	Maintain a high level of customer focus
•	Contribute to Company IP portfolio by producing Invention Disclosures
•	Assist in the development andadaptation of new methodologies
•	Assist in providing solutions to problems of an appropriate level of complexity
•	Review and approve technical documents 

We are looking for a degree qualified person who has an understanding of Medical device product development.  The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as required and be able to collaborate and influence across the global organisation.
Essential Criteria:
•	Have a good working knowledge of statistical concepts.  Expertise in standard statistical analysis packages such as SPSS and MINITAB
•	Ability to employ technical skills and perform data handling and analysis to a good standard of proficiency and efficiency and with attention to detail
•	Basic programming skills
•	Competent problem solving  and report writing skills
•	Data extraction and analysis experience
•	Degree qualification in a relevant field 

Desirable Criteria:
•	Knowledge of MATLAB and ORACLE or equivalent, 
•	Masters degree qualification with post-graduate experience in a relevant field
