Under the JISC purchase of Springer Protocols, which I assume is what Tom was referring to, access is only at SpringerLink, not at Springer Protocols, (at least that's what I was told).
I've realized that the URL I gave lists protocols at the chapter level. If you generate a book-level title list, or a set of Springer MARC records, from http://www.springer.com/librarians/e-content/springer+marc+records+%26+ebook+title+lists?SGWID=0-148802-12-846712-0, there are only 759 protocols between 1981 and 2012, so that should be more manageable to upload to an LMS (I didn't think we had 28,000 MARC records for protocols!)
I can't work out how to get a book-level listing of Protocols on the SpringerLink site, just that chapter-level one I gave before.

Hi Tom,
We have a database entry and also set up the individual links on our link resolver (we have SFX) to the 'books' that the protocols fall into (I got a list from the SpringerLink site http://www.springerprotocols.com/cdp/view/Series?issn=1064-3745&sortBy=VOLUME). The list had dates so I was able to just add the ones in date range. There is a target called Springer Protocols on SFX.
Best wishes,
Amanda

Tom et al,
If you want to link to the 1981-2012 Springer Protocols at SpringerLink en masse you can use:
http://link.springer.com/search?facet-content-type=Protocol&date-facet-mode=between&facet-start-year=1981&facet-end-year=2012
Any searches of SpringerLink that your users make, having followed that link, will still be limited to Protocols and 1981-2012, unless they click the 'New Search' option on the right of the search box.
We load the MARC records too, but I suppose that depends on how well your LMS is able to cope with large loads of MARC records.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Linking to Springer Protocols Backfile
Afternoon all,
I've got myself in a bit of a tangle, and was hoping to crowd source some best practice...
We have access to the Springer Protocols backfile (1981-2012), and I was wondering how other institutions are making it available/discoverable to their users. There's a desire from our users to have it listed in our OPAC and/or link resolver, but there's no single entity called 'Springer Protocols', the protocols are all floating about on the Springer platform. So I'm not sure exactly what we should link to. Or should we not try to treat Springer Protocols as a single entity at all, and just load the MARC records for the individual protocols (some 28,000 in all) into our catalogue, and treat them all as if they are individual e-books?
Not quite a database, not quite a books series, not quite a journal... I'm not sure which angle to attack this from.
All suggestions gratefully received!
Many thanks,
Tom
