Dear Colleague,
This message contains information about the opportunity to recruit a talented US graduate student for a short (3-12 month) research visit to Finland into the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Russian Studies.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched an international research opportunity within its Graduate Research Fellowship Program GROW (Graduate Research Opportunity Worldwide). The programme encourages NSF Graduate Research Fellows to spend a research visit of 312 months in Finland with the goal of enabling researchers to establish international contacts at an early stage of their careers.
The Finnish Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Russian Studies at the Aleksanteri Institute, University of Helsinki is a multidisciplinary research unit with a focus on modernisation in Russia. The CoE would be eager to act as a host to a talented graduate student working on Russia or other Eurasian country. We would be happy to work with researchers on a variety of topics that fit the research plan of the CoE (including economic diversification, domestic and foreign policy, welfare, democratisation, law, administration, the media, and culture.) See more on the CoE: http://www.helsinki.fi/aleksanteri/crm.
The CoE is hosted by the Aleksanteri Institute, a hub of Russian expertise. It is one of the largest centres in Europe in its field and a dynamic place for research, teaching and reaching out to society. We offer our researchers an innovative, international and inspiring research community with excellent research infrastructure and premises in the heart of Helsinki. The visitor is expected to be an active member of our research community by, inter alia, participating in the Institute¹s research seminars.
If you have prospective candidates among your students or in your network who would be interested in spending a research visit among us, please encourage them to apply. We find this exchange programme as an exciting opportunity for enhancing future research collaboration in Russian Studies.
Please note that GROW is open only to recipients of the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) on a competitive basis. If the applicant is successful, the NSF will cover the salary costs of the Graduate Research Fellows, while the Aleksanteri Institute will cover the housing and living costs and other practical arrangements. More information about the programme can be found from the NSF website http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=504876
.
If you have any questions about the role of the Finnish Centre of Excellence or the Aleksanteri Institute as a potential host, please contact Acting Head of International Affairs, Dr Katja Lehtisaari at [log in to unmask] or tel. +358 50 311 2590.
Yours sincerely,
