The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to support the work of Prof Catherine Leyshon and Dr Michael Leyshon. This post is part-funded by the European Social Fund, project number 11200NCO5, and is available from 1st February 2014 for one year and will be based in the Department of Geography, Peter Lanyon Building - Penryn Campus. The successful applicant will develop an inter-agency approach to recruiting and incentivising volunteers to provide some of the social care services that support personal health, hygiene and wellbeing in the elderly in Cornwall. Working with strategic business, third sector, and public sector partners, the PDRA will seek to build capacity in elderly social care in Cornwall by exploring the potential use of a community or alternative currency to incentivise the development of social capital in the volunteering community.
The successful applicant will have a range of relevant research skills in human geography or a related discipline, excellent analytical and communication skills, be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information orally, in writing and electronically, and be able to prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will possess a PhD in geography or related discipline and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work effectively in this project. The successful applicant will be required to, inter alia, build a participatory research project with relevant agencies, organisations and individuals; undertake, transcribe and analyse interviews; provide in-depth critical analysis of contemporary examples of community and alternative currencies globally; and explore and test different means of collecting, tracking, banking and exchanging an alternative currency for care.
