Hi,
Dr Rachel Ballantyne http://www.arch.cam.ac.uk/directory/rmb51 has worked on charred seaweed so may be able to help.

Subject: Seaweed!
Hi!
Just wondered if anyone could offer any advice on the identification of
charred seaweed, in terms of suitable identification books? I have found
a couple of sites where charred seaweed has been identified to species,
but none of them note the identification guides used.
Thanks very much,
