2.2 Webinar series on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship – Final session 5 December 11:00 GMT
ALT is running a series of free webinars funded by the JISC IOE Digital Literacy project. The series will explore the themes of the forthcoming special issue of Research in Learning Technology, which will focus on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship, featuring the authors of four of the papers in the special issue. The final session is Textual Practices in the New Media Digital Landscape with Mary Hamilton and Mary Lea.

The session is designed to provide information and support to candidates looking to complete their portfolios in the next few months. It will provide an overview of the submission process, advice on how to complete a portfolio and an opportunity to see how the assessment process works.

4.1 Jisc webinar: Assessment and feedback - how technology can make a difference, 5 December 13.00-14.00 (GMT)
Over the past two years, the Jisc Assessment and Feedback programme has worked with over 30 institutions in the UK further and higher education sector to pilot new approaches that address a range of challenges to better meet the needs of learners, employers and staff. 4.2 In Focus: Learner analytics and big data symposium, 10 December 2013
The aim of the free event is to provide an informative and thought-provoking introduction to the concept of learner analytics and big data, with indications as to how these are being used or could be adapted to work in educational contexts and what the future might look like if analytics become mainstream. 4.3 14th Durham Blackboard Users' Conference – 9-10 January 2014
The theme of this year's conference will be the “Life of i”. Taking liberties with the title of a well-known novel and rather expensive devices designed in California but made in China, to look at personal and personalised lifelong learning, supported through technology. We invite members of the Blackboard User Community (and their friends who may have jumped ship) to share their insights and experiences.

4.4 UCISA event: Effective use of mobile technologies, Imperial College London, 24 January 2014.
A showcase of best practice in the use of mobile technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. The event includes case studies from the upcoming best practice guide. The case studies go beyond the provision of mobile access to existing technologies and will demonstrate the advantage of using mobile technologies in the learning experience.

4.5 MOOC: First Steps into Learning and Teaching 27 January - 7 March 2014
This five-week introduction to teaching in higher education will again be run as a MOOC, free and open to all for participation (assessment incurs a fee).The module attracts participants from across the world, who bring with them a wide variety of resources and expertise. Learning across such a distributed group depends on connectivity and frequent interactive communication.
