Can anyone enlighten me about the expression ‘chirks’? Two women were picking barrows of the same at Polgooth Tin Mine in 1854 and 1857. In 1855, another was picking cinders, at the same rate per barrow. Can I assume that was what they were? I can’t find a definition in any dictionaries.
Many thanks,
Lynne
