The Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) within the DPHPC (one of Europe's leading academic departments of population health sciences) is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary group currently comprising >50 staff and students. The CEU (http://www.phpc.cam.ac.uk/CEU) is taking a lead role on a randomised controlled trial, INTERVAL which is funded by the UK Blood Service (NHSBT) and is investigating the impact of increased frequency of blood donation. The INTERVAL project involves the recruitment of 50,000 blood donors to a two-year study enrolled at one of the 25 blood donation centres across England.
Due to expansion of the study, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Scientific Research Coordinator who will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on this study. This position can be filled by an appropriate candidate at Research Associate or Research Assistant level, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
The post-holder will be based in Cambridge and their primary role will be to provide support to the Senior Scientific Coordinator in a) managing the day-to-day activities of the trial including recruitment, data collection and transfer and monitoring budgets b) developing and implementing protocols for end of study measurements and enhancements, c) developing and implementing potential future studies in blood donors and d) preparing manuscripts, reports and publication.
The post-holder will have: (1) relevant scientific training (eg, Masters or PhD in relevant field), (2) relevant experience in scientific study coordination (3) high level report writing and presentational skills (4) a working knowledge of good clinical/research practice. The post-holder should also be able to work independently as well as part of a large multidisciplinary team, accurately judge priorities, and have excellent organisational and communication skills.
