Mae'n bwysig iawn bod pethau'n hawdd eu deall, ond mae hefyd angen termau penodol i gyflwr meddygol penodol, ac rwy'n meddwl y byddai 'dioddef effeithiau ergyd i'r pen' yn rhy lac yma, ond fe fyddai'n syniad da rhoi esboniad o'r fath mewn cromfachau ar ôl y term os tybir na fydd y term yn gyfarwydd.

'Cyfergyd' yn air newydd i minnau hefyd, ond os hwnnw yw'r gair yn y geiriaduron, ac os hwnnw a ddefnyddir ar newyddion, fe fyddwn i'n ei dderbyn. Fe fydd rhywbeth fel hyn, y sylw yn y wasg i gyfergydion (neu achosion o gyfergyd) ar chwaraewyr rygbi yn ei wneud yn air mwy cyfarwydd i bawb.

O ran tras y gair Cymraeg, yn ôl GPC, mae 'cyf-' yn gallu golygu 'Cysylltiad neu gydberthynas neu gyfranogiad' ac, wrth reswm, mae gan y 'cyfergyd' gysylltiad uniongyrchol a'r ergyd (mae hefyd yn gallu bod yn '[g]adarnhad neu bwyslais ar ystyr y gair a ragddodir' - 'ergyd fawr' felly, yn debyg i etymoleg Ladin y Saesneg). Felly ni welaf o gwbl ei fod yn derm anaddas. Yn ôl GPC roedd cyfergyd wedi magu ystyr 'concussion' erbyn geiriadur Pughe yn 1794.

Ie, pob lwc â'r annog pobl i ddefnyddio 'cyfergydwst'!

"Bryn Cyfergyd" (gw. y Mabinogion") yw'r unig le y gallaf gofio clywed y gair, a "blow" yw'r ystyr yn fanna'.
