Report abstract: The midwifery profession is facing increasing pressures and a national shortage, leading to high levels of workplace stress. However, many midwives flourish and thrive in the face of adversity and demonstrate professional resilience. This study explored clinical midwives' understanding and experience of resilience via an online discussion forum. The findings suggest that resilience was a learnt process developed over time. A range of resilient strategies were described which included enhancing self-awareness and investing in colleagues. This report identifies a number of implications for midwifery practice, education and research.
